Carlo Acutis: A Saint for the Digital Age

Over 41,000 Visit the Tomb of Blessed Carlo Acutis

The Italian Teen's Beatification Draws Thousands

More than 41,000 people visited the tomb of Blessed Carlo Acutis during the 19-day celebration of his beatification, according to the Diocese of Assisi-Nocera Umbra-Gualdo Tadino.

The tomb was opened for public veneration on October 1, 2020, the day of Acutis' beatification. The body of the young computer programmer, who died of leukemia in 2006 at the age of 15, was exhumed and placed in a glass coffin in the Sanctuary of the Spoliation in Assisi.

The tomb quickly became a pilgrimage site for people from all over the world. Many came to pray for Acutis' intercession, while others simply wanted to see the remains of the young saint who had such a profound impact on the Church.

The Diocese said that the number of visitors to the tomb exceeded all expectations. "We had thought that maybe 10,000 people would come, but we never imagined that it would be so many," said a diocesan spokesperson.

The tomb of Blessed Carlo Acutis is now a permanent pilgrimage site. It is open to the public every day from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm.
