Romania and Ukraine Euro 2024 opener ends goalless
Lacklustre start to the tournament
Romania boss Edward Iordanescu is cutting an energetic figure on the touchline – especially as the clock ticks down.
This is the first ever competitive meeting between Romania and Ukraine, with each of the previous six taking place in friendlies. Ukraine came into the game with a 100% winning record in those friendlies.
Belgium, who face Slovakia later today, are the clear favourites to top Group E. Romania and Ukraine will be hoping to finish in second place and qualify for the knockout stages. Both teams will be disappointed with this result, but Ukraine will be the happier of the two sides. They had the better chances and were unlucky not to win.
